Loans against motorcycles
At LoanAgainst, we offer fast, discreet short-term loans against a range of movable assets, including motorcycles.
How to get a loan against a motorcycle
Simply apply, including details of your motorcycle. One of our representatives will get back to you, to guide you through the rest of the process, which is designed to be quick and easy.
Your motorcycle will be stored securely for the duration of the loan term. Once the loan is repaid, your motorbike is returned to you. You can repeat the process whenever you choose, as a flexible way to access liquidity when it’s needed.
How does the application process work?
Simply apply online with some info about the motorcycle, including the make, model, year and condition, and we’ll send you an instant quote.
After we send you an initial offer, you can decide whether you’d like to move forward with the loan.
You will then need to bring your motorcycle to one of our branches for a final, in-person appraisal so we can finalise the loan offer.
How long does it take to pawn a motorcycle?
Once you review and sign a loan agreement, the funds will be deposited directly into your account via EFT, typically within 24 hours.
What documents you need
Our loan process is simple and doesn’t require a lot of paperwork. To finalise your application, you must supply:
- the original registration documents in your name
- an original identity document
- proof of address.
Because our loans are secured by a physical asset, there’s no need to supply payslips, proof of employment or credit history.
Why consider a loan against a motorcycle?
With an asset-based loan, you can unlock the value of an asset without losing ownership. In other words, you can get cash for a motorcycle without selling it.
Asset-based loans have no impact on your credit score, and you don’t need to submit to a credit history check when you apply.
Why use LoanAgainst to pawn a motorcycle
Our loans are designed to be fast and streamlined, giving convenient access to cash when you need it.
We’re an established and experienced credit provider with physical branches in most major cities in South Africa. We don’t charge hidden fees or penalties, and all our staff are trained to ensure that our processes are fully transparent and compliant with the National Credit Act.

Pawn your motorcycle FAQ
What are some popular motorbike brands that can be used to get a loan?
We offer loans against all brands. Some examples of motorcycles that are popular in South Africa and typically retain their resale values are BMW, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Suzuki and KTM.
Can I pawn a motorcycle that doesn’t have registration documents?
We can offer a loan only against a registered motorcycle that is in your name. You will need to provide the original registration certificate when you apply.
Can I pawn my motorbike if it’s still financed?
Any vehicle must be fully paid off before it can serve as security for a loan.
Can I ride my motorbike during the loan period?
No. Your motorbike will be placed in secure storage for the duration of the loan period. No one will ride the motorbike during this time.
Is my motorcycle insured while in storage?
Yes. Our insurance covers your motorcycle while it is in storage for the loan period. However, you are responsible for insuring it while riding it to and from our offices.
Can I pawn any type of motorcycle?
Any motorcycle – new, used or antique – that’s in good condition and has a decent market resale value can be used as collateral for a loan. This includes popular brands like Yamaha and niche brands like Royal Enfield or Harley Davidson.
How much can I borrow against a BMW?
The loan amount is based on a percentage of the assessed market resale value of the vehicle. The brand affects this amount but is not the deciding factor. In the past, we’ve offered loans ranging from R20,000 up to R10 million.
Case studies: how loans against motorcycles help clients
The funding you use a motorcycle to secure may help bridge a cash-flow gap. Or it may make it possible to take a time-sensitive opportunity.
Buying into a business
Consider one client, who used a Ducati Panigale V4S Speciale to secure funds so that he could become a partner in his company – an opportunity that likely wouldn’t be repeated.
Not only did he become a partner and improve his monthly earnings, he retained his luxury motorcycle. This remains a significant asset. It can be sold or used to secure an additional loan at a later stage.
Funding for a family
Another case study? A client secured a loan using a BMW R 1250 GS. The proceeds made it possible to cover renovation costs, ahead of the arrival of a new addition to the family. And once the loan was repaid, our client got his bike back, in the same condition he left it.
